Over 11 thousand die-hard fans turned out to the Independence Day baseball game between the El Paso Diablos and Laredo Lemurs. The Diablos would blow a late lead, and lose 9-6. However, that didn’t stop the scores of fans from having a great time, and celebrating “4th of July.”Immediately after the game, there was a much-anticipated fireworks show.

“It was amazing,” says Tianchen Kai, who attended his first professional baseball game in the United States. Kai is originally from Shanghai, China. He says he’s thrilled to have had the chance to attend a game considered America’s pastime on such an historic day.

“Today is the 4th of July, and it’s America’s national holiday. I’ve only been in El Paso for two days and it’s great.”

The El Paso Diablos will play again Wednesday night at Cohen Stadium against Laredo once again. Gametime is set for 7:05 p.m.
