2013 story: More WSMR soldiers to be deployed to Afghanistan

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) – Around 120 soldiers based at White Sands Missile Range are slated to be deployed to Afghanistan.

A deployment ceremony is scheduled Monday at the 2nd Engineer Battalion headquarters. The soldiers from the 40th Mobile Augmentation Co. will join soldiers with the 573rd Clearance Co. and the 595th Sapper Co. that have been sent to Afghanistan.

Soldiers with the 595th Sapper Co. were deployed in early December, and soldiers with the 573rd Clearance Co. left in early July. All soldiers will be on nine-month deployments.

Three of the battalion’s five companies will be on deployment. Altogether, the battalion has about 700 soldiers.
