Chihuahuas Fall to Cubs 3-1

The El Paso Chihuahuas loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning Wednesday, but did not score and lost to the Iowa Cubs 3-1 at Principal Park in Des Moines. After Iowa closer Blake Parker got two quick outs, the Chihuahuas loaded the bases on a single by Jake Lemmerman, a pinch-hit single by Jeff Francoeur and a walk by Alex Castellanos. Jonathan Galvez then flied to right field, ending the game.

Iowa scored three runs against El Paso starter Odrisamer Despaigne, who lasted five innings and struck out seven while walking two and allowing seven hits. El Paso’s lone run came on an RBI double by Brooks Conrad with two outs in the eighth inning. Tim Sexton and Keyvius Sampson pitched scoreless late outings out of the El Paso bullpen.

Lemmerman went 2-for-4 in the loss for El Paso, putting together the only Chihuahuas multi-hit game. Josh Vitters went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for Iowa.
