Traffic stop turns into officer-involved shooting

A routine traffic stop in Northwest El Paso Thursday night ended with an officer firing his weapon.

It all came to an end on the 6800 block of Steffers.

A spokesman for the El Paso County Sheriff’s office told ABC-7 that around 8: 40 p.m. an officer tried to make a traffic stop.

It’s unclear if it was an El Paso Police officer or a deputy with the Sheriff’s office who attempted the traffic stop, but the driver then reportedly sped off, leading to what the Sheriff’s Office spokesman called “other incidents.”

A deputy ended up firing his weapon, but no injuries were reported.
