79 Aggies Named Academic All-WAC

The 2014 academic All-WAC baseball, softball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams have been announced by the Western Athletic Conference, in addition to the academic all-WAC freshmen/transfer teams for all sports. A total of 308 spring student-athletes were named to the list, while 342 freshmen and transfers were added for a total of 650 student-athletes.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests.

The Aggies totaled 79 student-athletes on the list, including 37 representing the spring sports and 42 on the freshman/transfer list. Women’s outdoor track and field led the way for NM State with 14 student-athletes on the spring list, while baseball had 13 and softball had 12 between the two lists. The NM State soccer team had seven on the list and men’s and women’s tennis had six and seven student-athletes on the list, respectively. Indoor track and field saw six on the list, swim and dive had six and men’s and women’s golf each had three.

With 21 Aggies making the academic All-WAC list for the fall and 31 for the winter, a total of 131 Aggie student-athletes were honored by the conference office. NM State opens the 2014-15 season on August 22 as the Aggie soccer team faces Loyola Marymount at 8 p.m. MT
