Streets closures may affect Downtown commuters

El Paso,TX -Starting next Tuesday, Kansas Street will be closed to all traffic between Main Street and Franklin Avenue.

The city is rebuilding the Bataan Memorial tramway at a cost of $1.1 million

Martin Bartlett is the spokesperson for the Engineering and Construction Management Construction Department. He says

,”If you’re coming from the east side or the northeast we are really encouraging you to just take Cotton Street to Texas or Loop 375, and approach Downtown from the south to avoid that Kansas Street area

if at all possible.”.

Kansas Street will be closed for three months. There will be a one month overlap when both Kansas and Santa Fe Street will be closed.

Impacts to Sun Metro Service:

Sun Metro will be required to detour routes 1, 42, 59 and 75. Sun Metro drivers will make courtesy stops along the detoured route as required.

These routes may experience delays due to traffic, especially during peak hours.

– Route 1 Detour: Buses traveling outbound, north on Kansas will turn right onto Missouri Street, left onto Mesa Street, left onto Main, right onto Kansas continuing to the regular route.

– Buses traveling inbound, west on Missouri will turn left onto Mesa Street, left onto Main, right onto Kansas continuing to the regular route.

-Route 42 Detour: Buses traveling inbound; south on U.S. 54 will turn right onto Loop 375, right onto Campbell Street, left onto Myrtle Street continuing to the regular route.

– Route 59 & 75 Detour: Buses traveling inbound, west on Missouri will turn left onto Mesa, left onto Main, right onto Kansas continuing to the regular route.
