Update: Suspicious package at Freedom Crossing was false alarm

Update: Fort Bliss has released the following information on the Freedom Crossing evacuation: All, first responders determined that suspicious package was a false alarm, and nothing more than an unattended briefcase.

Fort Bliss’ DES, and El Paso local and federal law enforcement all responded accordingly. The safety and security of fort bliss remains our #1 priority and this joint cooperation reinforces this professional relationship.

Original Story: Freedom Crossing on Fort Bliss has been evacuated after a suspicious package was reported inside the mall, according to a Fort Bliss spokesman.

The package was reported shortly after 3:15 p.m. Monday.

“Fort Bliss’ Department of Emergency Services have secured the perimeter, and are following all established protocols when dealing with a suspicious package including the evacuation of all employees and patrons from the immediate premises,” Fort Bliss spokesman Col. Lee Peters said in a statement.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
