Socorro roads to be paved in next 2 years
Drivers, you may now exhale a sigh of relief. Socorro City Council approved Thursday, Jan. 15, to pave 60 roads.
The Socorro public works director categorized all the roads in the area on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the worst conditions possible. Now 60 roads in poor condition will either be paved for the first time or repaved in just two years.
Socorro Mayor Jesus Ruiz said safety is a top priority.
“We can’t afford to let our streets to deteriorate,” Ruiz said. “Because they do cause accidents, cause flat tires, there are pot holes, and the safety of our residents is a primary concern for us, and this will help us take care of that.”
Residents were also excited for the coming positive changes in their neighborhood.
“It is about time,” one resident said. “They also help out El Paso and I am glad it is now our turn to get our roads and community back where it needs to be.”
