Riverside High School teacher on leave after arrest
Ysleta school district officials said they are requesting that a teacher accused of having an improper relationship with a student not return to the classroom.
A YISD spokeswoman told ABC-7 they are recommending against the renewal of Victor Talamantes’s contract. The board of trustees would make the final determination.
Talamantes, 39, was arrested for allegedly fondling a 16-year-old student at Riverside High School. He taught social studies at Riverside, according to the school’s website.
According to a police complaint affidavit obtained by the ABC-7 I-Team, Talamantes engaged in inappropriate behavior with the student from December 1, 2013 to February 19 , 2014.
The complaint states the victim told police Talamantes would ask her to come into his classroom, he’d lock the door, then kiss and fondle her. A similar encounter happened at his house, according to police documents.
A spokeswoman for YISD said Talamantes has been on paid administrative leave since February.
