Horizon City crews spend day cleaning up stormwater

Crews in the town of Horizon City spent Thursday cleaning up stormwater.

Homestead Road near the Horizon Golf and Conference Center was one of the hardest hit streets. Crews said it could take three to four hours to clear all the water out. Fortunately, residents prepared by protecting their homes with sand bags.

Horizon City’s Chief of Police Mike McConnell said he didn’t hear of any flood waters entering homes, or reports of injuries.

“I don’t believe anybody has had water actually get into their house but I understand their frustration because it closes this whole road down,” Chief McConnell said.

Chief McConnell said that Horizon City just recently passed it’s budget and he knows that city council and Mayor Walter Miller are working on securing funds for a better drainage system. The town was incorporated in 1988, but many homes and streets in the area are much older than that.
