Sandbagging techniques for flood prevention
Sandbagging can often aid in preventing floodwater from entering your home or business in the event of minor flooding.
However, the wall of sandbags should be prepared properly to prevent damage to your property.
The use of sandbags is a simple, and effective way to prevent or reduce water damage.
The first step is to lay the sand bag down flat.
You’re going to take the second sandbag and lay it down right next to it.
Make sure the tail end of the sand bag is up.
The Stormwater Operations Manager Martin Noriega says “try to create some type of seal. It’s not going to be water tight. You’re just trying to create a nice level area for it to form , nice and even so that way you can reduce the gap”.
If you’d like to add height make sure you stack the second row vertically from there.
You should stack on top of the first layer of bags.
You can pick up your sand bags at the Stormwater Operations center off of Fred Wilson.
EPWU customers are allowed 15 bags per visit. Click here for a list of sandbag locations :http://www.kvia.com/news/with-storm-on-way-many-picking-up-sandbags/28112680
