Police ID man killed in pedestrian accident early Friday morning

El Paso Police have released the identity of the man killed in a pedestrian accident early Friday morning.

He has been identified as 36-year-old Mario Murillo of the 600 block of N. Carolina.

Police responded to the incident at 2:05 a.m. in the 7600 block of Alameda.

Police say that a 21-year-old woman was driving a PT Cruiser westbound on Alameda in the left lane when she struck Murillo, who was laying in the westbound lanes of Alameda.

The driver stopped a short distance away. Murillo died at the scene.

Police say laying in the roadway and alcohol are believed to be factors on the part of the pedestrian in this fatal collision.

The driver was arrested and charged with Possession of a Dangerous Drug and her identity and mug shot will be released upon completion of the booking process.

This is the 50th traffic fatality and the 21st pedestrian fatality of 2014.
