Update: El Paso Police charge 68-year-old with murder in Nov. 21 Lower Valley shooting death

Dec. 1 Update: Victim’s name has been released and it is 46-year-old Carlos Marquez.

The booking photo of Gabriel Chavez has been released.

Nov. 21 Story: El Paso Police have charged a 68-year-old with murder in the shooting death of a man early Nov. 21.

Police officers responded to a shots fired call at 1:42 a.m. in the 400 block of Duran.

Moments after arriving, the officers heard two gunshots fired and allegedly saw Gabriel Chavez walking away from the victim who was laying on the sidewalk.

Chavez, who was in possession of a handgun was taken into custody by the officers.

The man who was shot was transported to Del Sol Medical Center where he died.

Chavez has been charged with murder and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a bond of $100,000.

Police are not releasing Chavez’s booking photo at this time because it could compromise the investigation.

The identity of the victim is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
