Montwood construction project delayed

EL PASO, Texas –Roadwork along that stretch of Montwood has been going on for two years.

Motorists on Wedgewood are required to follow marked detour routes on Montwood, McRae, and Album.

This is right next to Eastwood High School. Today, we learned drivers and pedestrians will have to wait at least until the beginning of March for work to be complete.

Crews are working on a flood control project along that stretch of Montwood.

It includes new sidewalks, pavement and drains, in addition to new trees and shrubbery.

City officials said workers may need two more weeks to finish the project.

The city realizes this is a big deal for residents in that area. Residents are being asked to be patient.
One resident, Andrew Apodaca said, “That’s going to pose a problem for me. I don’t know about anybody else, but I wish there was a little more urgency, it’s been going on for quite some time. I think everyone is just ready for it to get finished.”

City spokesman Martin Bartlett said he is unsure how much this will cost, it’s too early to tell.

The closure will begin at 6:00 Monday morning and continue for two weeks.

The city asks motorists to follow detours and consider alternate routes while the work is in progress.
