ABC-7 LISTENS: Freeway Concrete Pillar Damaged?

Construction is underway in far east El Paso to complete the interchange that connects Interstate 10 and Loop 375.

An ABC-7 viewer sent us a photo of one of the pillars that holds up part of the interchange.

The photo shows a chunk of concrete missing from the pillar, with the rebar protruding out. It looks as if a portion of the pillar is damaged.

The pillar supports the overpass that takes drivers from I-10 east to Loop 375 northbound.

ABC-7 reached out to the Texas Department of Transportation to find out if drivers should take precaution while driving in the area.

Spokeswoman Blanca Del Valle responded via e-mail:

“The chunk of freeway did not fall, the contractor broke away the concrete to place a foundation. This is part of the construction work.”

For drivers, there is no need to worry while driving through the area, it is part of Tx-DoT’s plan to complete the interchange.
