PUMP PATROL: Price at the pump heading in wrong direction

Filling up at the pump is getting more painful by the day — but the average price is still over a dollar less than it was a year ago.

According to Gas.Buddy.com, prices have jumped 12 cents over the past week to $2.40 a gallon. And senior patroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan says he’s expecting another bump up of 10 to 15 cents next week.

DeHaan says some of the reasons for the hike are the brutal cold weather that has caused glitches at refineries, while some are starting to transition to the more expensive cleaner summer blend of gas.

California has been hit the hardest, with an overnight rise of 11 cents a gallon. Prices were up eight cents a gallon overnight in Oregon and Washington state.
