Police investigate stabbing in North-Central El Paso; no arrests made

Update: El Paso Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred in North-Central El Paso just before midnight Sunday.

Police say that an altercation occurred between two men in the 4000 block of Lackland that escalated into a fight.

The victim was stabbed in the abdomen during the fight. The suspect then fled the area.

The victim, who is in critical condition, was transported to University Medical Center after he was initially taken by friends to the 7-11 at McKelligon and Alabama.

Crimes Against Persons (CAP) investigators were called to assist with the investigation. This investigation continues and no arrests have been made at this time.

Original Story: One person is in critical condition at a hospital after a stabbing overnight.

El Paso police were called to a convenience store on the 5000 block of Alabama Street, close to the entrance of McKelligon Canyon, in north-central El Paso.

ABC-7’s ‘Round the Clock news crew saw that police had a couple of people in their custody, but noticed they were not handcuffed.

It’s not clear what role, if any, they had in the incident.

Witnesses in the area told ABC-7 the convenience store is where the stabbing victim showed up looking for help. The victim was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Meanwhile, police also swarmed the area near Van Buren Avenue and Lackland Street eight blocks away, closing the intersection.

An El Paso Police spokesman confirmed with ABC-7 that the investigation at that intersection was related to the stabbing investigation.

The EPPD Mobile Command Unit arrived at the scene just before 6 a.m.

An investigator told ABC-7 the command unit was requested to “process the scene more thoroughly.” He added the stabbing had not turned deadly.

Investigators were seen gathering evidence and taking photos.
