Chihuahuas Drop Nail Biter

The El Paso Chihuahuas had two hits and a walk in the ninth inning but fell one run short in Reno’s 2-1 victory Monday night at Southwest University Park.Bryce Morrow made his Triple-A debut for the Chihuahuasand pitched fiveinnings, allowing just onerun.

The Aces scored the first run of the gameon Nick Evans’ RBI groundout in the first inning. The Chihuahuas had runners on base in each of the first five innings but did not score in that span.The second run of the game didn’t come until the top of the seventh, when Danny Dorn lined an RBI single to left field off El Paso reliever Nick Vincent.

Jake Goebbert’s one-out walk started El Paso’s ninth-inning comeback attempt. After a Brett Wallace single,Austin Hedges hit a single off closer Jake Barrett’s leg to score Goebbert and advance pinch runner Rymer Liriano to third. Alex Dickerson struck out to end the gamewith runners at first and third.
