Chance of rain, wind Friday

Moisture has moved over the Borderland the past few days, bringing stronger dew points to the region and more clouds.

Friday there will be a chance for rain showers and dry thunderstorms across the region. The best chance of rain remains east of Dona Ana and El Paso counties, in portions of Hudspeth and Otero counties. That region will sit under a 30% chance of rain. El Paso and Las Cruces have a 10% chance of rain this early afternoon. El Paso will see a bump to 20%, scattered, chance of rain early in the evening, before sunset.

Rain may fall spottily across the area, with dry thunderstorms potentially creating lightning or strong winds with blowing dust throughout the region. Areas west of El Paso and Las Cruces, in Southern New Mexico will see the highest risk for downburst winds and dust.

It will still be hot, and windy Friday. The forecast high for El Paso is 100 degrees. Winds will gust to 30 miles per hour, with the potential for higher gusts with isolated thunderstorms.

Saturday a 10% chance of rain will remain in the forecast, but begin drying late in the day. Sunday, Father’s Day, should be mostly dry with a high of 99 degrees.
