Coronado principal promoted to Area Superintendent for EPISD

Area 1 Master Principal Marielo Morales has accepted the position of Area Superintendent, effective immediately, according to El Paso Independent School District officials.

Morales served as Master Principal for Area 1, primarily overseeing Bowie and Coronado high schools, since October.

Morales served as Coronado’s principal since 2002.

“With more than 30 years experience at EPISD schools, Ms. Morales has the institutional knowledge and commitment to help not only our students, but also our faculty and staff,” said

EPISD Superintendent Juan Cabrera. “She has devoted her life to education, and it’s an honor to have her serve in this role.”

Morales will oversee 29 schools, including the Coronado, Bowie, El Paso and Jefferson/Silva feeder patterns.

“Ms. Morales is respected by students and teachers. She is a true leader who helps motivate those around her to succeed,” said Ivonne Durant, deputy superintendent for academics and school leadership. “We are very fortunate to have someone with the strength of academics and the vision of strong leadership in this role.”

The search for permanent principals at Bowie and Coronado continues.

As Area 1 Superintendent, Morales will have the authority to make final recommendations to the Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent.
