Unloaded weapon found in Eastwood student’s backpack

A weapon was found in a student’s backpack at Eastwood High School Monday morning.

Ysleta Independent School District officials say Eastwood security was notified at 8:55 a.m. Monday by students that another student might have a weapon.

The student in question was found and searched by 9 a.m. The student had an unloaded weapon in his or her backpack. YISD officials did not say if it was a boy or a girl.

YISD officals also did not say what type of weapon it was.

The El Paso Police Department has been notified and is currently investigating the situation.

“The Ysleta Independent School District’s top priority is the safety of our students and staff, and we work diligently to maintain a safe and secure environment at all of our campuses. At no time was there an imminent threat to anyone. Parents, students, and staff at Eastwood High School have been apprised of the situation. All students and staff at Eastwood High School are safe, and classes continue on their normal operating schedule,” YISD said in a statement.
