Ex-Dona Ana County elections supervisor allegedly changed payroll to qualify for food stamps

Doa Ana County Sheriff’s detectives have arrested a former Doa Ana County employee for allegedly defrauding the government.

Lorrie A. Munoz, 32, the former bureau of elections supervisor at the Doa Ana County Clerk’s office, was arrested for allegedly defrauding the government.

Sheriff’s officials said information from a separate investigation at the clerk’s office revealed to investigators that, in 2013, Munoz used her computer at work to allegedly change her payroll records so that she could create documents that would make her eligible for food stamps.

The Doa Ana County Sheriff’s Office and the Third Judicial District Attorney’s White Collar Crime Task Force subsequent investigation revealed Munoz had allegedly been falsifying these documents from approximately January to December of 2013.

Munoz – who resigned Thursday – reportedly said that she would then change her pay back to the correct amount.

Detectives arrested Munoz Friday. She is charged with making or permitting a false claim for reimbursement for public assistance services, a fourth-degree felony.

Munoz is being held on a $15,000 cash bond at the Doa Ana County Detention Center.
