El Paso Area High Schools and UIL Texas State Sport Championships

El Paso can’t win a state championship. Have you ever heard anyone say this? Usually the person is talking about football. I may have even made the statement a few times myself—–again about football. What about other sports?

My purpose in writing this book is to show that El Paso high schools and El Paso athletes have a long proud tradition when it comes to competition in the many Texas sport state championships. I have spent many hours studying various records and I am now ready to set the history straight. I have examined every sport from football to tennis.

I have looked for El Paso team and El Paso individual championships in every sport. I am going to save you, the reader, many tedious hours of searching records. I have devoted a chapter to each sport where Texas athletes compete for championships. I have included public schools, private schools, and parochial schools. My hope is that you, the reader, will find the book informative and enjoyable as you search to see if your favorite school has ever won a state championship.

I think you will find that most of the schools in El Paso or the surrounding areas have won team or individual championships. I have tried to be thorough but some of the records I have studied are incomplete. I apologize if I have left out any team or individual. Please contact me if you find an omission and I will correct the mistake in future updates.
