GECU presents Music Under the Stars continues this Sunday

One of El Paso’s favorite – and free – musical traditions is starting up in early June.

The GECU presents Music Under the Stars has announced its lineup for this summer.

“The city and its partners have assembled a diverse line-up of music from around the Southwest and around the country for the 32nd Season of GECU presents Music Under the Starts and the 6th season of Dancing in the City,” said Ben Fyffe, deputy director of the Museums and Cultural Affairs Department. “These two events have become summertime staples which we are proud to continue as part of the city’s commitment to enhancing El Paso’s quality of life.”

Music Under the Stars will have a shorter season going forward.

“MCAD has been evaluating previous attendance numbers and despite increased marketing efforts, MUTS attendance has continued to decline significantly since 2011 when the alcohol ban was enforced by the National Park Service,” City officials told ABC-7 in an email. “The attendance increased in 2012 but has steadily declined since. The upcoming season and future seasons will continue to be focused on increasing per concert attendance while showcasing quality local and recognizable national talent and keeping city resources (budget) in mind.”

Music Under the Stars will be from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every Sunday from June 7-July 26, except for July 4, which will be a Saturday concert that starts a half hour earlier. The concert series will be held at Chamizal National Memorial, 800 San Marcial Street
