Afternoon storms knock down tree

Strong storms moved into the Borderland Saturday afternoon, bringing with them heavy rain and strong winds.

On the east side of town, a large pine tree was knocked over onto Trawood Avenue because of the winds. No one was injured.

The tree, located outside the Wintree apartments at Trawood and George Dieter, blocked the westbound lanes of Trawood.

Residents assisted in directing traffic around the fallen tree.

The tree, estimated to be about 25 to 30 feet tall, was quickly cut into pieces by a group of tree trimmers.
