Man dies after being hit by train

A man was killed after being hit by a Union Pacific train early Saturday morning. It happened just before 4 a.m. on the 8100 block of Carpenter in the Lower Valley.

El Paso police say 25-year-old Jesus Manuel Lopez was walking south about to cross the railroad tracks.

At the same time, a train was travelling east on the main track. Lopez continued to walk south, crossing the tracks, and was struck by the train.

Lopez was taken to Del Sol Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol played a role in the collision.

Special Traffic Investigators assisted El Paso police in the investigation.
