First city council meeting for newest representative

There will be a new face at the El Paso City Council meeting Tuesday morning.

Newly-elected representative Peter Svarzbein will take part in his first meeting since being elected earlier this month.

Svarzbein, along with two other representatives, Claudia Ordaz and Michiel Noe, were sworn in Monday night at the Plaza Theatre in downtown El Paso.

Svarzbein replaced the longtime representative for District 1, Ann Morgan Lilly.

District 1 covers the west side of El Paso.

Svarzbein said in his speech Monday night it was a hard-fought race with six contenders in the race during the general election.

He said he is ready to begin his new position.

“I think we need to work hard together to keep this city moving forward and to work hard on the issues that affect our districts, our city and our region,” said Svarzbein.
