NMSU Football looking for long term bid into SBC

New Mexico State is already a member of the FBS and they are a football-only member of the Sun Belt. Because of this, the Aggies are hoping for an invite to find a permanent solution for its football program and other sports within the school.

NMSU’s current agreement with the Sun Belt runs through 2017 and is up for review following this season.

Mario Moccia, with the NMSU Athletic Department, said they are looking to solidify the sport of football. Moccia said their success on the field is critical if they do want a chance at a future bid.

Moccia also went on to say they are focused on what is best for the sport, and that is staying in the Sun Belt for the long term.

The Sun Belt requires 75 percent approval from the 11 presidents or chancellors from the full members to extend an invitation. No decision has been made yet.
