last month we spoke with residents who say the intersection of rich beem and edgmere is just too dangerous. today could be the start of some changes for the area. right now rich beem and edgemere is a 4- way stop. according to a city report– a total of 15 crashes were reported between september 2013 and september of this year. while some drivers says they’d like to see a traffic light– the city has other plans– a round- about. a total cost estimated at about 967-thousand dollars. with the area growing– so are the concerns. residents say– with an elementary school nearby– it’s important traffic is moving smoothly and safely. that funding would come from 2013 street infrastructure certificates of obligation. meanwhile… one person is dead after being hit by a truck in the segundo barrio near downtown el paso. it happened around 4-30 in the afternoon yesterday on kansas street and third. details are still very limited — police only telling us a man was hit by the pickup. he was taken to the hospital where he later died. no word yet on whether the driver will face any charges. abc-seven confirmed an assistant football coach at centennial high school in las cruces… … died monday morning at university medical center here in el paso. state police tell abc-seven coach roger grays was the passenger in a truck that rolled off a rain soaked i-25. his nephew, a player at centennial, cameron berkley, was driving the truck. he was not seriously hurt. the school’s head football coach confirmed the news for us yesterday evening. the team is planning a memorial before the big state championship game saturday against artesia. / also from our new mexico mobile newsroom crew… a pair of las cruces brothers are behind bars after allegedly sexually assaulting an 8 year old boy last friday, police arrested 38 year old jorge uriostigue and his brother, 41 year old francisco uriostigue. the two brothers now face a variety of charges related to the alleged sexual assault … plus, two other charges they racked up while being arrested: “they put up a fight with officers who were armed and so if they’re going to put up a fight with officers who are armed what are they going to do to a young child?” documents state the uriostigues knew the 8-year-old boy. his mother says she saw the men make inappropriate comments to the boy… and the child eventually opened up to a family friend — saying they had sexually abused him. the two men are still in jail this morning held on a 100-thousand dollar bond. now it’s time to take a look at the tx-dot traffic cams… still much more to come here on good morning el paso — the pentagon is considering sending more troops into syria—but first they need to see a project, already in syria, make progress-we’ll explain / plus— the first major storm of the season is slamming parts of the country–where it hit hardest, coming up. meteorologist krystal klei has your detailed forecast. krystal… and this is abc-7, where news comes first!
