Pothole problems in El Paso

the snow may be gone … the effects from the winter storms are sticking around. and there’s likely more snow to come. abc-7’s andrew j. polk has this story. :31 :46 gaps, splits and potholes – el paso roads are showing the wear from the start of our relatively wet winter so far. the extra precipitation is also putting the strain on the city’s streets department maintenance crews. “i’d say, on a weekly basis it’s about 300 potholes a week.” that’s the usual average, but with a lot more calls than usual coming in, west area supervisor chris forti says the ten road patching crews spread throughout the city have been working 50 hour weeks to catch up. “water is not good with asphalt water gets under the – into the cracks, and deteriorates the asphalt pretty quickly.” weather in general takes its toll on roadways, but the eight inches of snow and subsequent rains soaked many roads in the region. nats “a major challenge of pothole repair? once the dirt underneath a road is damaged, it can be more prone to problems in the future. meaning that once an area is patched, it could still require more repairs in the future.” “we do try to g to them as soon as possible, but we do prioritize. in other words, high speed arterial streets, collectors. we try to get to those as soon as possible due to the volume of traffic. a streets department spokeswoman says that the city has considered other materials like rubberized asphalt or concrete for the roads … but that “asphalt i the optimal product for our climate and infrastructure”… an that “it is also the most cost-effective product.” so for now, watch the roads. andrew j. polk, abc-7 the city streets department says all service requests will be dealt with as soon as possible. to report a problem you can call the city at 3-1. hats off to you new mexico state football fans who stand behind your team no matter what. the football team hasn’t had a winning season in over a decade. and the ags haven’t played in a bowl game in half a century! tonight, the big story on campus is what to do with the football program. and in stormtrack weather –doppler:
