Borderland Signing Day 2016!

athletes across the nation… it’s a big day for universitues as well … utep made the most of national signing day … they landed all but one of the top players in el paso and picked up some serious state wide talent too … 24 players signed today…of course locally… they got guys like brannon bullitt from chapin… he is a great kid to keep in town… he also got versatile athletes like eric foster from americas … “it is a long process and sometimes we don’t find out till the night before or the day of…but its very rewarding to put in all that work and have the young men stay loyal to your program.” parkland defensive end christian johnson is one of the newest utep miners… ask any offensive lineman in the city… this guy was a nightmare matchup… one of the many super talented players utep managed to keep in el paso… so here’s a look at some of the notable recruits from the day … you can get the full list on kvia dot com … alright well… new mexico state picked up 15 players today… among the notable aggies signees.. coach martin got a couple of steals in there… obviously… he’s happy… “put verbatim here! andress athlete tristan cooper put together a great career at andress.. once upon a time he won punch and pie for a catch he made against bowie… today he officially signed with the university of arizona … that’s cooper on the right with his teammate jonathon molinga…cooper goes to the pac-12… he also had offeres from illinois… new mexico and new nexico state … tristan the only el paso player going to a power 5 school… and he takes exception to that… “we have so much talent here an the sad thing is we all get overlooked. i mean i was one of the lucky ones cuz i had coach woodruff..they could have easily went to a bigger school.” brannon bullitt got his dues at chapin high school… as i mentioned… the kid is an absolute beast … he’ll add a much need weapon on the perimeter for his quarterbacks… “put verbatim here! and this was just the start. more than a dozen athletes across el paso signed their letters of intent to play college football. abc 7’s luke lyddon has more. luke? danny an exciting day for hundreds across the nation and for many more right here in el paso. and i think it’s a given eastwoods richie rodriguez and mark torrez both signed to play at the next level. rodriguez and torrez both signed their letters of intent to play for utep. rodriguez was insane this past year as he led the entire state of texas with more than 17- hundred receiving yards and 21 touchdown catches. but he couldn’t have done it without his quarterback mark torrez who had a year of his own. he threw for more than 38-hundred yards and 41 touchdown passes. and today was a moment they’ll always remember. “i mean i am excited, anxious its just evertyhing has hit me at once and i couldn’t be more grateful…. and progress as an athlete.” it is one of the greatest reasons why i wanted to stay here at home…and really was apprecaitive of that.” and over at montwood it was nearly the same story! defensive lineman josh ortega and offensive lineman bobby deharo both signed to play at utep next year. ortega racked up 40 total tackles last season with 4 sacks. while deharo dominated on the o- line. and the best part …they get to stay right here in the borderland. “uh with my family here t support me and to see me, it is an amazing feeling, i am glad to stay here in my hometown.” “having a full scholarship it just makes me feel like they wanted me and its special to know that my school is paid for ….i’ll have my education at the end.” but we still have a lot more to cover so ill let yah take it away danny! luke, thanks. eric foster is one of the most versatile players in the city and today he was rewarded… foster also lands with utep… he played quarterback and receiver during his time with the trailblazers but he’ll be a cornerback for the miners… “it means a lot especially fo me and my family. my parents don’t have to pay for college. i can go on and prove to everyone i can do this and play beyond high school.” meanwhile las cruces qb kameron miller is officially on with u-nm… miller won a state title in his sophomore year with his dad as his head coach… jim of course played ball at oklahoma and nmsu… kam following in dad’s footsteps… “my dad did great whenever he was my age and now i’m trying to make my own name for myself. my dad left a great legacy here but now i’m trying to make a great legacy up north.” the utep basketball team has a couple of big home games starting with
