Boy riding bike injured in crash

A 12-year-old boy riding a bicycle was seriously injured when he was struck by a car while crossing the street, according to El Paso Police.

This happened Thursday around 4:43 p.m. on the 5500 block of Delta in south-central El Paso.

Police said the boy failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic at the intersection of Libson and Delta when he was struck by a 1995 Nissan Maxima driven by 20-year-old Gisela Almanzar. As a result, the boy was thrown from his bicycle and his bicycle struck a 2015 Nissan Sentra driven by 40-year-old Silvia Castillo.

Special Traffic Investigators were called when it was determined the boy had suffered serious injuries. He was taken to University Medical Center for treatment, and later transferred to El Paso Children’s Hospital.

None of the occupants in the vehicles sustained any injuries.

The case is still being investigated and no charges have been filed at this time.
