Two car crashes shut down portion of I-10 early Friday morning

Two crashes in far east El Paso county closed a portion of I-10 early Friday morning.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department, the first crash happened just after 2 a.m. on I-10 east near Eastlake Boulevard.

The Sheriff’s Office said a Ford Mustang hit a BMW. One of the drivers in that incident was taken to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office also said another crash happened when a vehicle disregarded a sheriff’s unit on the scene of that first crash and hit the unit.

No injuries were reported in that incident to the driver or sheriff’s deputies.

The Sheriff’s Office said that several DWI arrests were made as a result of both of these crashes.

I-10 eastbound was reopened around 6 a.m.
