Plea hearing for man accused of killing wife postponed for Tuesday

A man in his 70’s accused of stabbing and killing his wife has pleaded guilty to murder and is awaiting his sentence.

Issac Duarte was booked into the El Paso county jail under a $200,000 bond in August of 2014.

Duarte, then 74 years old, was accused of killing his wife, 66-year-old Maria Duarte, inside their lower valley home.

Court documents stated that he waited for police and when they arrived at his home, he directed them to his wifes body.

When police discovered the body they saw that the victim had stab wounds to the chest and back.

Police said that Isaac Duarte then tried to kill himself with a knife but was unsuccessful .

The sentencing phase for Duarte will resume on Tuesday.
