Man Arrested After Attempting to Enter Woman’s Apartment in west El Paso

A 28-year-old man has been arrested after police said he attempted to enter a woman’s apartment and then fled from the officers on scene. This happened early Thursday morning on the 500 block of Rubin in west El Paso.

El Paso Police said around 2 a.m. officers responded to a burglary of habitation in progress after a woman reported a man attempting to enter her apartment through the front door and through her bedroom window.

As the officers arrived on the scene, police said they saw Jose Ray Jarvis Jr. on the patio area and he ran from them. Jarvis Jr. was arrested in a neighboring apartment complex after a short foot chase.

Jarvis Jr. was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility charged with Criminal Mischief and Evading Arrest or Detention under bonds totaling $1,050.

With a warmer climate approaching, the El Paso Police Department would like to remind citizens of some extra precautionary safety measures:

Double lock all doors and use deadbolts.

If windows are left partially open for ventilation use window locks to prevent windows from being fully opened. These can be purchased at any hardware store for less than one dollar.

Keep outside entry areas lit, preferably with motion detector lights.

Close garage doors.

Make noise so that any possible intruder knows that persons inside have been alerted.

Be prepared to defend yourself by any means.
