Neighbor: Downed power line causes two east El Paso homes to catch fire

Two houses caught fire just after 5 p.m. Wednesday on the 8900 block of Cosmos in east El Paso.

This happened after a power line fell on top of the two houses, according to a neighbor on scene. Anita Hernandez told ABC-7 she heard a loud thump after a big gust of wind blew down a power line.

Other neighbors told ABC-7 that children were inside one of the homes, but were evacuated safely. The other home is reported to be vacant.

The homes are located across from Cielo Vista Elementary School.

El Paso Electric responded to the fire as procedure. A spokesperson for EPE said about 769 customers were affected due to wires down.

EPFD reported one injury, but it was unknown if it was a firefighter or a victim.
