Crews battle Moon Mountain Fire

while firefighters try to contain a wildfire burning close to town. yesterday, abc-7 first told you about what was then a 100- acre fire. village of ruidoso manager — debi lee — told us the blaze erupted on forest service property on moon mountain, just east of populated areas. this is new video of the blaze. lee told us the sacramento hot shots are among the dozen or more agencies working to contain the wildfire. it remains 30 percent contained and only 50 yards away from ruidoso high school property! we sent abc-7’s jamie warren up to ruidoso. jamie joins us live from our new mexico mobile newsroom. intro fire crew’s still don’t know the cause of the fire but they’re having to work against these heavy winds which is cause of the fire but they’re having to work against these heavy winds which is challenging acreage count: now 150+ second smaller fire now being fought off of mechem drive, near the swiss chalet lodge. state agencies like the sacramento hot shots and the bureau of land management are parked outside ruidoso high school as crew’s consistently work to clear the smoke and flames. moon mountain is right behind the school, the fire spread there over night because of heavy winds. thats why officials made the decision to cancel classes at all schools for the day. residents near by were also warned but so far no evacuations. this isn’t the first time ruidoso has experienced an emergency like this. 4 years ago the little bear fire burned over 40,000 acres of forest. the spokesman for the bureau of land management says while this fire isn’t as large it still comes with a heightened sense of urgency. 17:45:15 with the wild fire it’s not so much the size of the fire as is the threat that it has on the community this isnt a very large fire but it has a direct impact on the community because it’s threatening the high school,and with the little bear fire although it was a very large fire it still had a large impact on the community because it threaded a the village and also a number of,homes and structures and as we speak crews are also battling a second fire on the mascalero apache indian reservation. they are using the same airtaker that was used to control this fire last night. the village manager explains how they initiatate a quick response. that’s coming up on abc-7 at 6. a complaint affidavit obtained by abc-7
