SISD school bus carrying students involved in three-vehicle crash

A school bus carrying six students was involved in a crash Thursday morning in Horizon City, Socorro Independent School District officials confirm.

This happened at North Darrington and Roslyn Drive before at 7:20 a.m. Three vehicles were involved.

Horizon Police said the SISD bus was fully stopped at a stop sign about to turn right onto Darrington, when a 2014 GMC Acadia traveling eastbound struck a 2015 Chevy Cruze going north on Darrington.

Because of the collision, the GMC careened into the front of the school bus.

All four people inside the Cruze were taken to University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. None of the eight people on the bus were injured.

An SISD spokesman said the students were evaluated on scene and taken to school afterwards. The parents were notified.

Horizon Police said the driver of the Acadia was cited for failing to yield the right of way. Police don’t believe the bus driver was at fault.

The Horizon Fire Department and the SISD Police Department assisted at the scene.
