Court document: Teddy’s bouncer snatched gun from off-duty police officer
A bouncer at Teddy’s Flame Room who had a gun pointed at him allegedly by an off-duty police officer grabbed the gun and twisted it out of the officer’s grasp, according to court documents.
El Paso police said the officer, 25-year-old Edgar Feria, was drunk and was escorted out of the club for creating a disturbance about 12:50 a.m. at the club attached to the Best Western Hotel on 6600 block of Gateway West in Central El Paso.
According to the arrest affidavit obtained by the ABC-7 I-Team, after Feria was escorted out, he was seen milling around the parking lot hotel.
The front desk clerk notified the bouncer, Martin Corona Jr., who returned to the parking lot and noticed that the brake lights on his own car were on. When Cordova approached his car, he noticed Feria sitting inside holding a handgun.
Corona told detectives he asked Feria to get out and tried to remove him before Feria got out and allegedly pointed the gun at Corona’s chest with his finger on the trigger.
Fearing for his life, court documents state, Corona “reacted by grabbing the hand gun and twisting it out of the (Feria’s) grasp.”
Corona and another bouncer held Feria until officers arrived. Feria was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
Feria, a 4-year-veteran assigned to the Pebble Hills Command Center, was relieved of duty and placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal and administrative investigations. He has been booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $25,000 bond.
