Franklin head volleyball coach Flo Valdez honored for reaching 1,000 wins
EL PASO, Texas – Very few coaches in any sport at any level even coach 1,000 games. To win 1,000 times is something only the most successful can claim they’ve done.
Franklin head volleyball coach Flo Valdez is one of the lucky (and persistent) ones to reach that milestone.
The school honored Valdez Tuesday night with a ceremony prior to the Americas vs. Franklin match.
The team presented Valdez with a sign commemorating those 1,000 wins – a mark achieved back in August of this year.
She actually entered the night with 1,014 total wins, adding 14 since achieving the milestone. That makes her one of the top 16 volleyball coaches in the entire country in terms of total wins.
She added one more to her tally as her Cougars defeated Americas later in the evening in three straight sets.
Valdez said although she is in her 43rd year coaching volleyball, she doesn’t have plans to slow down any time soon.
She has also been an educator for 50 years, but says she has plenty more in the tank.
Her goal now? She says she’s got her eyes set on 1,100 wins.
