Two UTEP football players named to AP All-America Team

UTEP running back Aaron Jones and offensive lineman Will Hernandez have been named to the AP All-America team.

Jones was named to the third team, while Hernandez was named to the second team.

No UTEP Miner had been named to an All-America squad in the past decade (last was Johnny Lee Higgins, who was named to the second team in 2006).

This is the first time in UTEP’s history that two players have been recognized as All-Americans in a single season.

Hernandez has started all 37 games for the Miners at left guard and anchored an offensive line that gave up fewer than two sacks per game. The Las Vegas native also helped the Miners rush for 185.5 yards per game.

Aaron Jones, meanwhile, set the UTEP single-season rushing record after tallying 1,773 yards this year. He tallied 17 rushing scores and averaged a staggering 7.7 yards per carry, while also adding three receiving touchdowns to his tally.

Jones is ranked third in the nation with 147.8 rushing yards per game.
