EPPD: Gang-related crime significantly increases first six months of 2017

The City of El Paso experienced a “significant increase” in the number of gang related cases and arrests during the first six months of 2017, the El Paso Police Department said.

Compared to the first six months of 2016, gang-related crimes rose in the following categories throughout the first six months of 2017:

Aggravated Assaults – 41% Graffiti – 33% Deadly Conduct – 26% Criminal Mischief – 59%

Police officials said, that during the first six months of 2017, the total number of cases assigned to the Gang Unit increased by 46 percent. There was also a 24 percent increase in the number of Gang Related arrests.

The El Paso Police Department encourages anybody who has information regarding gangs, gang violence, or graffiti to call Police at 915-832-4400.
