Chaparral man arrested, accused of stabbing worker

A Chaparral man is being held without bond after Dona Ana County Sheriff’s officials said he stabbed a man doing remodeling work on a home.

Officials said 52-year-old Michael Johnson was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and battery.

The alleged incident happened July 12.

The victim of that stabbing told detectives he was doing remodeling work on a home on the 500 block of Paloma Blanca in Chaparral.

After going to talk to with the homeowner and her family, the victim reportedly came in contact with Johnson, who became aggressive and allegedly began hitting the victim several times.

At one point, officials said Johnson pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the victim twice in his left arm.

The man was taken to an El Paso hospital where he was treated and released for a non life-threatening injuries.

Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Department Special Response Team arrested Johnson, who was also wanted on drug-related charges in Texas.

He is currently being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
