Sinkhole swallows woman in her car after storm drain collapse

A woman and her automobile were swallowed by a sinkhole in West El Paso after a storm drain collapsed under the road.

The driver says she drove into the residential neighborhood to avoid driving through a flooded street and was making a U turm at the intersection of Villa Hermosa and La Placita when the sinkhole opened up.

Paulo Cardenas, a fast food vendor, was standing outside a nearby home when the sinkhole swallowed the car.

He and other neighbors ran to help get the driver out of the car, fortunately she was not hurt and only got some minor scrapes on her ams as she crawled out the window.

She was too shaken to speak on camera, but said she was grateful for the help.

Once Cardenas and neighbors pulled her out the ground and car sunk even further.

El Paso Water Utilities told ABC7 a storm drain had collapsed under the road, creating the sinkhole.
