Water delivered to Juarez colonias in need

As water tubs were filled in southern Juarez colonias families came out to thanks those El Pasoans helping them through the hot summer; Boundless Across Borders collected water donations for three weeks, nearly one thousand gallons, to help those families in our sister city without running water.

“It’s the desert, it’s hot, people don’t have clean water and you can’t live like that, so we’re trying to help,” said one volunteer who was handing out water to families and children.

One neighbor deep in the colonias told ABC-7 the municipal water truck that supplies other streets runs out of water before it reaches his neighborhood and it doesn’t come back.

Since the municipal water trucks don’t always make it out to the isolated colonias, neighbors have to buy the water themselves and it can get expensive.
It costs $35 to fill one of those trucks to deliver to several houses, but that can be too much for some of these neighbors.

A grandmother we spoke with said her entire family lives with her, 15 or 16 people, and a single income is not enough for them to get all the water they need.

Children came out of their homes, asking for bottles to drink; even as families thanked the group for their help, the need is still there.

“It wasn’t enough, there’s a lot left to do, there’s a lot of ways we can probably help,” explained Xochitl Rodriguez with Boundless Across Borders.

Hundreds of gallons are still ready to be given away, Boundless Across Borders says they won’t stop soon.

If you would like to donate more water you can drop it off at 901 East Rio Grande Avenue. It is a house catty-corner to a church with water cases on the front lawn.
