Downtown ambassadors to guide visitors

If you’re visiting downtown El Paso this holiday season you’ll be seeing some people walking around in purple uniforms answering questions.

“It’s a program of the Downtown Management District, to provide a concierge type service out on the street. It’s friendly people, smiles and hellos to everyone that comes across,” said Joe Gudenrath, the Downtown management District’s Executive Director.

The downtown Management District is planning on using these teams to guide people around who may not know the downtown area well and aren’t familiar with the new business and developments that have popped up over the last several years.

“Where to get a bite to eat, what time the buses run, do they need to plug the meter. These are all questions we train our ambassadors so that they’re able to answer those questions and provide assistance where they can, direction when they’re needed,” Gudenrath said.

Finishing their training on Saturday, the ambassadors went around the downtown area to help guide locals and visitors to new attractions, restaurants and venues, hoping to get people used to the uniform.

“Look for the purple shirts, the purple hats. We’ll be looking for you , we’ll be here with a friendly hello ready to help you and provide any assistance we can offer,” Gudenrath explained.

The Ambassadors will start working downtown next weekend with the Winter Fest and they’ll be helping people until early next year.
