Fifth annual hugs not walls event

Today was the 5th hugs not walls event. Close to 300 families reconnected at the riverbed between US and Mexico near Chihuahuita.

It was an emotional reunion for some families who hadn’t seen each other in years. Those from the U.S. wore blue and those from Mexico wore white.

This event was arranged by the border network for human rights.

“If this country United States, continues this aggressive strategy and policy against our families and keeps separating our families we will continue to make the effort to bring families together. We need to understand the families are afraid, they need a little bit of hope. Things can be better for them that these temporary actions of the government. That is the message we want to send,” says border network director Fernando Garcia.
