Texan convicted of smuggling 30 immigrants in load of limes

A South Texas man faces up to 10 years in federal prison after being caught trying to smuggle 30 immigrants in a refrigerated truck trailer hauling a load of limes.

Prosecutors say David Rodriguez Sr. of Carrizo Springs was convicted Friday in Corpus Christi of conspiring to and transporting illegal immigrants.

The 52-year-old Rodriguez remains free on bond pending sentencing in the case involving a search last December at a Texas border checkpoint near Falfurrias
