ABC-7 Xtra: The debate continues on El Paso Police officer viral video
The viral video of an El Paso Police officer pointing a gun at a group of children has caused debate in the Borderland and nationwide.
Police say officers were responding to a trespassing call on Sambrano Avenue on July 5. An altercation occurred between people at the scene and the officer.
That’s what led to the incident that has been viewed by millions on social media.
Debates have ensued on when it’s appropriate for police officers to use their guns. Some have said the El Paso Police officer went too far during the incident and others justify what he did.
The incident prompted the El Paso Police Department to conduct an investigation that will be monitored by a review board consisting of police personnel and members of the community.
El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen addressed the incident a week after the day it occurred, saying the public would know the result of the investigation slightly after he reviewed the result.
On ABC-7 Xtra, host Saul Saenz will speak with Sgt. Ron Martin of the El Paso Municipal Police Officer’s Association and Ernest Wade, instructor with the El Paso Community College Law Enforcement Training Academy.
