O’Rourke: I would support impeachment of Trump
Beto O’Rourke said he would support a vote for impeachment of President Trump.
The El Paso Democrat’s comments come as he and his fellow U.S. Rep. Will Hurd, (R-Helotes), were honored Tuesday.
Hurd, who represents part of far east El Paso County, and O’Rourke were at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., to accept the Prize for Civility in Public Life, an award from Allegheny College in Pennsylvania.
The two men earned the award after drawing national attention in 2017 for a road trip they took together from San Antonio to the nation’s capital after flights were canceled due to a snow storm. The two livestreamed much of the trip and answered questions from the public during the drive.
O’Rourke said Trump’s comments in Helsinki merited his vote for impeachment, although he has said in the past that he would support the move.
In a news release, the spokeswoman for Sen. Ted Cruz, whom O’Rourke is challenging for his seat in November, called O’Rourke’s comments “radical” and “reckless” and said they show that he is “unfit to serve” in the Senate.
